Snoop Dogg Biography
Calvin Cordozar Broadus, Jr. was part of the likes of Nate Dogg, Wiz Khalifa, Xzibit and Dr. Dre who rules the 90’s entertainment industry and even today he remains one of the top rap artists and producers, many recognise him by his alter ego Snoop Dogg and he has been in professional music for twenty years now starting in 1991.
Dogg was born 20/10/1971 in California to Vernall Varnado and Beverly Tate, he was surrounded by already established music artists from the time of his birth as his birth father was in the industry, his distant uncle was the acclaimed Nate Dogg and singing was a passion that was shared collectively in the family. From as early as the age of four Dogg was already a key performer at his church and instruments and rap were not foreign to him. Dogg got his education at a school in Long Beach although he was never one for books as he would often spend class time in neighbourhood cliques.
At the time the African-American concentrated region of Long Beach had a number of rapper wannabes and Dogg was attracted to the lifestyle they led, it was a dangerous one that comprised of rival gangs that would showcase their rap skills in street battles and the best groups would dominate. This had led to a battle for power over who would be in charge, Dogg was caught up in the scuffles on many times and he had to face the arm of the law. If it was not a violent clash that had put him behind bars then it would be a drug related incident that would go wrong leading to his arrest.
Dogg started his career in 1992 working under producer Dr. Dre, at the time the young artist was affiliated with the West Coast group of rappers that was always at war with the East Coast side. Some of the other prominent names that featured in this conflict were Tupac and Notorious B.I.G. Dogg’s first album was titled Doggystyle and it immediately went multi-platinum, although fairly new to the professional scene Dogg’s ability to write his own lyrics and deliver them fluently coupled with his past street rap experience were picked as the reasons for his quick acceptance by the market.
Still signed on to Death Row label Dogg went on to release three more albums that year titled Tha Doggfather, Da Game Is to Be Sold, Not to Be Told, and No Limit Top Dogg, the albums went on shelves in 1996, 1998 and 1999 respectively.
His albums in the 2000’s decade are Tha Last Meal released in 2000, Paid tha Cost to Be da Boss in 2002, R&G (Rhythm & Gangsta): The Masterpiece in 2004, Tha Blue Carpet Treatment in 2006, Ego Trippin' in 2008, Malice n Wonderland in 2009 and the latest is a 2011 release titled Doggumentary.
Besides hip hop and rap Dogg has made a name in film by appearing in films like Training Day, Baby Boy, Bones, Malibu's Most Wanted, and Big Time Rush.
The multiple award winner is popular for songs like ‘Sexual Eruption’ and ‘Drippin' Like Water’.
