Stella Mccartney Biography
Even before she could make a name for herself, Stella McCartney was already a well know figure in the entertainment industry, hers is a story of coming from riches to establishing an even wealthier status even before she clocks 40.
McCartney was born to parents Linda Eastman McCartney and Sir Paul McCartney on September 13 1971 in Lambeth, London, England, UK. From the time she was born, McCartney’s life was not destined to be like that of an average child since at the time her mother was a renowned fashion photographer and her father was a popular member of a band that was named Wings, although his fame had been achieved for being part of the successful Beatles band. Life for young McCartney revolved around the highest levels of luxury courtesy of her parents’ highly paying jobs. When many were thinking of going for once a year vacations she was going on trips around the world every now and then and through first class means.
Seeing the dangers that would come with an early exposure to this life, Linda Eastman McCartney and Sir Paul McCartney opted to limiting their daughter’s childhood to similar standards of an average child. The result of this was McCartney ended up in non-celebrity schools including the Bexhill College in East Sussex, London, the Ravensbourne College of Design and Communication, and the Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design. At school, McCartney was an exceptional student and her talent in fashion design was obvious from the clientele that was willing to adorn her first-time designs.
On completion of her studies, McCartney worked as a trainee in several London boutique’s before she was given the position of Creative Director in 1997 at the Paris fashion house Chloi. At first, many were quick to criticise McCartney’s lack of professional experience in the fashion industry but with time she proved critics wrong by showing that her position had been well earned by talent and not by her father’s influence as it had been presumed. McCartney’s stay in the fashion house continued until 2001 to establish her own brand.
The brand was a co-founded project with designer Gucci and it included stores in major fashion capitals of the world where the two designers would sell their line. During that time, McCartney went on to design outfits for top names in entertainment as well as other companies like Adidas, H & M, and Bendon. In 2007 she expanded the business into skin care by coming up with a range of skin lotions under the label CARE.
McCartney’s designs have since expanded into sports and film with her creations being featured in the 2010 Alice in Wonderland film as well as in the British Olympic and Paralympic games in the same year.
Being a vegetarian, McCartney is a vocal supporter of animal rights and she campaigns through the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, PETA. In addition to this, she only uses non-animal products to come up with her clothing lines. The need to preserve the life of animals was instilled in McCartney by her mother who during a well lived lifetime could not stand the use of products like leather or fur in the making of clothing.
