Taylor Momsen Biography
Taylor Monsen, original name Taylor Michel Momsen is one of the names behind the popular ‘Gossip girl’ series and hers is a face that has been in front of cameras for close to two decades. The star was born in St. Louis, Missouri, USA on the 2nd of June 1993 to Michael and Collete Monsen and had to wait for only three years before she was inaugurated into the world that is showbiz. Monsen was schooled at the Our Lady of Lourdes School in Missouri, USA and was nothing like her fellow schoolmates who lived the strict and sometimes restricting life of Catholicism. For her senior high school years she attended the Professional Performing Arts School in New York City. Momsen was an open-minded all out girl who loved to experiment with different roles on stage. She begun with kid’s films and was also featured in product campaigns for various products.
Her maiden roles were in ‘Hansel and Gretel’ and ‘Spy Kids 2: Island of lost Dreams’. She was pushed into stardom by the lead role of Gretel as the kid’s film was well received and became a kid must have.
Taylor is best remembered for the role of Jenny Humphrey in the 2007 to present teen series ‘Gossip Girl’. In the television series Jenny is seen as an aspiring fashion designer who attends a prestigious upper-class school in the suburbs of Manhattan alongside her brother Daniel Humprey. Jenny is in a constant battle to fit in with the rich kids despite coming from a poor single-parent home on the cheaper side of Manhattan.
Besides singing Taylor is an accomplished musician and is the lead singer, guitarist and owner of a band named The pretty Reckless. The fairly new band, signed under Interscope Records, has made commendable success with hit singles like ‘Miss Nothing’ and ‘Just Tonight’ from the 2010 Light Me Up debut album.
Monsen appeared on the films ‘Underdog’ as Molly and in ‘Paranoid Park’ as Jennifer. Her other roles include Madison Kramer in ‘Spy School’ and Samantha Wallace in ‘Saving Shiloh’. Pre- celebrity Momsen featured in the 2000 films ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas’ and also played Julie Moore in the 2002 film ‘We Are Soldiers’. Momsen credits her successful entry into acting to her role in the 199 film ‘Honey bee swan’.
For her numerous roles, Momsen has received nominations for Best Performance in a Feature Film during the 2001 Young Artist Awards, Saturn Awards Best Performance by a Younger Actor and for Blockbuster Entertainment Awards Favourite Female Newcomer also in the same year. Surprisingly these nominations are for her appearance in ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas’ and not for the series ‘Gossip Girl’ which drove up her rankings.
Taylor is rumoured to be millions of dollars richer after signing to be the face of two prestigious fashion houses in 2010. She is the face of Galliano, a ladies’ perfume and she is also part of the Material Girl clothing line, owned by singing legend Madonna.
During her free time Monsen loves to dance ballet, read and watch movies. One of her best books is ‘A Time for Dancing’.
Momsen is a part-time model at the international modelling agency BMG Models and has been signed on since 2008.
