Taylor Swift Biography
Born on in the year 1989 December 13 in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania, USA, Taylor Alison Swift, popularly known as Taylor Swift is a her country’s pop singer, actress and songwriter. She was born to Scott Kingsley Swift and Andrea Gardner, a stockbroker and homemaker respectively. She and her younger brother, Austin, were raised in a farm in Pennsylvania, USA. From a young age Swift developed an interest in music and poetry and performed to crowds in her local home area. Her talent came as no surprise to the family as Taylor’s maternal grandmother had been a successful opera singer. Taylor’s parents encouraged her to perform and at the fourth grade she won a poem-recital contest.
She attended Hendersonville High School but was later home-schooled. At school she was often bullied and could not defend herself. To escape from it Taylor expressed herself in poems, songs and books, usually to let out her emotions. Soon after she learnt how to play the guitar and later composed her first song ‘Lucky You’. The song was well received by her local fans so she went on to write more songs and continued performing.
At age 12 her family moved to Hendersonville, Tennessee in an attempt to proceed on with her music career. During one of her local performances Swift was spotted by Scott Borchetta. Scott signed her under the Big Machine Records where she recorded her first hit single titled ‘Tim McGraw’. The song was well received reaching top ten status in the Country Songs Charts and selling over 2.5 million copies. Her debut album ‘Taylor Swift’ comprised of songs that she wrote and co-wrote. The album’s success led to her winning the ‘Favourite Female Country Artist Award’ at the American Music Association Horizon Awards in 2008. In the same year she also won the ‘Female Vocalist of the Year Award’ and was nominated in the Best New Artist category, both, at the Grammy Awards.
She unleashed her second album ‘Fearless’ later in 2008. The album sales were in the millions and ‘Fearless’ won ‘Album of the Year’ and ‘Female Vocalist of the Year’ at the CMA Awards. The album was the best-selling in the US in 2009 standing at a record 3.2 million sales.
Taylor hit the headlines during the 2009 MTV Music Awards when Kanye West jumped on the stage and told her Beyonci deserved the ‘Best Female Video Award’ that Taylor had just won. He later apologised to her.
Her songs talk of the singer’s real life experiences which she believes gives a personal touch to her music lovers and gives them something to relate with.
Outside her music career Taylor has made appearances in Hannah Montana: The Movie, she played Felicia in the ‘Valentine’s Day’ film in 2010. She also appeared on the Crime Scene Investigation, CSI, series ‘Turn, Turn, Turn’ in 2009. Taylor also worked with the Jonas brothers on their film ‘Jonas Brothers’ The 3D Concert Experience’.
Taylor has appeared on People Magazine’s ‘100 Most Beautiful People’ three consecutive years from 2008-2010. She was also one of the ’25 Intriguing People’ in the 2009 People Magazine. The singer dated one of the Jonas brothers, Joe Jonas in 2008. She also dated ‘Twilight’ actor Taylor Lautner in 2009.
Taylor was the youngest employee ever hired at Sony Publishing House at only 14 years old. She is a multi-instrumentalist and plays the ukulele, piano, and guitar. Taylor draws her inspiration from Tina Turner, Dolly Parton, and Shania Twain.
