Vanessa Hudgens Biography
When Greg Hudgens and Gina Guangco had their daughter Vanessa Anne Hudgens on December 14 1988 in Salinas, California, USA they had no idea that she would become one of entertainment’s greatest teen successes. Initially the Spanish-American star was not interested in the limelight although she was enrolled early for opera classes as well as piano and dance classes. Vanessa’s parents noticed how their daughter enjoyed singing and acting so in support of her talent they sought a professional to coach and develop her artistic talents.
On developing a keen interest in her talent she decided to pursue music and acting as a career so she was enrolled at the Orange County School of Arts in California. She auditioned for various productions and took the stage name Vanessa Hudgens. Vanessa’s first stint in professional acting was in the 1997 children’s film ‘Wizard of Oz’ and she later had a role in another children’s film ‘The Music Man’. At age 13 Vanessa played a role in a television sitcom titled ‘Still Standing’ then she rose to stardom after taking the role of Gabriella Montez in the popular teen film ‘High School Musical’.
Vanessa went to reprise her role in the following part two and part three of the Disney Channel’s High School Musical films, a role she co-starred with Zac Efron in 2007 and 2009 respectively.
Aside from acting Vanessa is a singer and her first album titled ‘V’ sold thousands of copies in 2007 after it was put on the market. She became even more popular with teens and even older fans around the world. Her unique fashion sense and beauty won her numerous praise and teens around the world began dressing like her and she was an instant fashion icon and sex symbol.
The actress’ career has not been lacking in controversy as compromising pictures of her caused an internet uproar in 2007 and later in 2009. Although the pictures were taken with her consent she insists that they were private and not meant for the public. Both incidences put her music and acting career in jeopardy but luckily she still went on to receive more roles in acting. Her success in singing has however not rivalled her acting success. She seems to be a star in musical films unlike in singing solo after her second studio album titled ‘Identified’ barely reached platinum status.
Vanessa’s works throughout her career have earned various award nominations and wins. For her appearance in High School Musical she won the Choice Music Breakout Female Artist and Choice TV Chemistry Awards at the 2006 Teen Choice Awards. At the 2008 Kid’s Choice Awards she scooped the Favourite Movie Actress Award. The singer-actress has appeared on People Magazine’s 100 Most Beautiful People in 2008 and 2009. She is also one of the wealthiest young entertainers of today and has an estimated worth of billions of dollars.
Vanessa hopes to be a musical legend just like Celine Dion and Alicia Keys. Her favourite pastime is watching horror movies and listening to rock music. She will appear on her latest role in the film ‘Sucker Punch’ which will be out in 2011.
She has been a part of many Disney channel best-selling works such as ‘Cinderella’, ‘The Suite Life of Zac and Cody’, ‘Damn Yankees’ and ‘The King and I’.
