Vinnie Jones Biography
Vinnie Jones easily balances a career in football while making time to entertain in music, film and television, his star studded life has included noted names like Chelsea football club and Leeds United as well as film titles like Gone in 60 Seconds and X-Men: The Last Stand
Jones was born Vincent Peter Jones on January 5 1965 in Watford, Hertfordshire, England, UK to Glenda Harris Jones and Peter Jones, from the onset Jones had a first-hand exposure to football as his family members were not only fanatics of the game but his father was a professional footballer. Jones’ childhood was characterised by trips to football stadium to watch matches in a typical fashion as with many of the natives of England.
His involvement in the game was not optional as Peter Jones demanded that young Jones attend all his training sessions if not to play but to watch and master the basics of the game, what had started as a duty for the young boy gradually grew into an interest that saw Jones take up football at his school team. With the coaching of a professional like his father and the mentorship of other players in his father’s team Jones became a skilled on the pitch and he developed a speed and wit that outsmarted many of his peers.
Jones played on at his high school as the most valuable player until 1984 and at the age of 19 when he was signed on to his first professional gig at Wealdstone, the stay was short-lived and two years later he joined IFK Holmsund. Although in a small team Jones’ speed and goal scoring record caught the ears of big league team Wimbledon and in late 1986 he transferred to the team and was placed in the mid-fielder position. With the team Jones went to the finals of the 1988 FA Cup where he won against bigger English team Liverpool.
Jones’ stay in Wimbledon ended in 1989 and he immediately moved up the career ladder by joining Leeds United, he stayed on for a year before leaving in 1990. While signed to Leeds Jones grew to become one of the favoured players and fans fell in love not only with his football prowess but also with his down to earth personality. Although not interested in leaving the team he was ousted by the coming of a stronger midfielder.
Other teams that Jones played in are Sheffield United from 1990 to 1991, Chelsea from 1991 to 1992, he returned to Wimbledon for a stay from 1992 to 1998, finally Jones was signed on to Queens Park Rangers from 1998 to 1999.
Jones other career is in film and in 1998 he appeared in his first film titled Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, after he was part of the cast for the film Snatch. In 2000 Jones acted alongside Nicolas Cage in the film Gone in 60 Seconds, the role was however minor. His biggest film appearance was in the high budget film X-Men: The Last Stand in 2006.
Jones intends to go back to professional football and his preferred team is Leeds United where he enjoys a substantial fan backing.
