Wentworth Miller Biography
The successful face and lead star of the famous Prison Break series, Wentworth Miller was originally named Wentworth Earl Miller III after his elite parents, Wentworth Earl Miller II and Joy Palm bore him on June 2 1972. Miller spent the first months in his birth town of Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire, England, UK before his family left the country for Brooklyn, New York, USA.
Continuing with his family’s academic line, Miller was a brilliant student not only in the classroom but also in the school choir where he often took part in singing presentations and formed music groups with his schoolmates. Miller holds a bachelor's degree in English Literature from the prestigious Princeton University and he was also educated at the Midwood High School in Brooklyn, New York and the Quaker Valley High School, in Leetsdale, Pennsylvania.
Despite having a first class degree and being an already established singer in his college band, the Princeton Tigertones, Miller decided to venture into the unfamiliar career of acting in 1995 after graduating from Princeton University, much to the surprise of his family and friends. Having no professional experience or previous exposure to the stage Miller’s career in film was not forthcoming and after numerous casting calls for films he had his breakthrough three years later on the 1998 series, Buffy, the Vampire Slayer. Miller’s dedication to the role of Gage Petronzi in the series won him great acclamation and soon after filming he was cast for other roles in television series like Time of Your Life in from 1999 to 2000. He went on to have more stints in the series ER, Law and Order, Family Guy, Popular, Dinotopia, Joan of Arcadia and Ghost Whisperer.
After several guest and lead roles in television series Miller decided to go into bigger projects and in 2001 he appeared in the mini film Room 302 Server, next he appeared as young Coleman Silk in the 2003 film, ‘The human Stain.’ The first role for the actor in a major film won him praise from critics and a gathering of fans begun to adore him for his looks and stage presence. Miller immediately became a sex symbol to female fans around the world although he maintained a low profile away from the media glare. In the same year he also had a successful role as Dr. Adam Lockwood in the much publicized film, Underworld and in 2005 he formed part of the cast of a film titled The Confession.
Miller is most remembered for his lead role as Michael Scofield in the 2005 drama series, Prison Break alongside Dominic Purcell. Prison Break became an instant hit after its pilot episode was first aired in 2005 and fans all over the world begun to follow it keenly, in the series Scofield goes to great lengths to save his soon to be executed brother Lincoln Burrows. The story-line shows Miller’s character coming up with a prison breakout plan tattooed on his upper body and a string of run ins with the law before the brothers finally gain freedom only for Scofield to die towards the series end in 2009. For the role Miller was nominated for the Best Actor in a Dramatic Series at the Golden Globe Awards in 2005.
The actor’s latest role will see him appear in the 2011 film titled The Mourning Portrait. Besides acting Miller is a screenwriter and a model.
