Willow Smith Biography
Willow Smith is one of the latest stars in the Hollywood scene and she has already established herself as a triple threat with just two hit singles to her name. She comes from a family that has been in the limelight since the career beginnings of her equally talented father Will Smith, and the Smith generations have been one of the most publicised celebrity families for their collective involvement in acting and music. She is the last child to Jada Pinkett-Smith and Will Smith who bore her on October 31 2000 in Los Angeles, California, USA.
From the time Willow Camille Reign Smith was a child she was surrounded by a buzz of filming and music recordings mainly by her father and brother, Jaden Smith. She was often taken by her father to film sets when she was aged five and he mentored her on the ropes of the entertainment industry. By the time Willow had demonstrated an interest in film and music so her father introduced the young girl to many of his celebrity work mates in the hope that she would pick some tricks and skills from them.
Fearing the demands of the media and a life under the scrutiny of tabloids Will and Jada decided to keep their daughter away from film roles until she was old enough to face the cameras. Her break came in 2007 when she was cast for a role in the highly publicised film titled ‘I Am Legend’ as Marley Neville alongside her father, Will Smith. This film was highly anticipated as was other films by Smith senior and his son, Jaden, the media was anxious for another success by the father and daughter similar to the success of ‘The Pursuit of Happiness’. During the premier night theatres in the U.S were filled as people waited to see the debut role of Willow Smith, the film was a major success and was valued at millions of dollars although its rankings did not exceed those of ‘The Pursuit of Happiness’.
Willow’s next role was a solo venture as she was pulled under her father’s wings to appear in another success titled ‘Kit Kittredge: An American Girl’ where she played Countee Garby in the 2008 comedy. In her short career in film Willow scooped the 2009 Young Ensemble Cast Award for Best Performance in a Feature Film for the role in ‘Kit Kittredge: An American Girl’, she was nominated for the Best Performance in a Feature Film for the 2008 Young Artist Awards for the appearance on ’I Am Legend’ but she did not win.
She is the sensation behind the hit single ’Whip My Hair’ which hit the airwaves in 2010, the song went to the top of billboard charts and became a club hit all over the world. A production of Jay-Z’s Roc Nation recording label and Ray Kay’s video direction, the single has received high reviews for it video quality and the young star’s vocals have been compared to established stars like Rihanna. Willow’s second single is titled ‘21st Century Girl’ and is set to be released in 2011.
